Table for one since 2007.
I hate writing personal rants but I’ve really had enough:
I’m tired of men confusing basic codes of human politeness as interest: Hello, thank you and goodbye does not mean that I want you to sexually harass me.
I’m tired of men confusing no as yes: No means no. Otherwise, it would be spelled y-e-s, dumbass.
I’m tired of men fetishizing Asian women as stereotypically passive and docile (and then telling me that I should be): This stereotype belongs in the period when the Earth was considered flat and my character and personality has nothing to do with my outward appearance.
I’m tired of men screaming out made up ‘Asian’ sounds at me in the streets and I’m tired of men “surprised” that I can speak English: Globalization anyone? / One’s first language cannot be judged by outward appearance / Yes of course “I don’t look Canadian” because I don’t even know what a Canadian is supposed to look like.
Because before labels of gender, race, nationality and stereotype I am a human being.
I do not exist so you can objectify me, harass me, and demean me.
And I swear I will scream this at every bigot, a thousand times a day in the streets, until you understand that I am a human being and I exist for me.
